Steam Therapy –
Steam inhalation opens the airways and drains mucus. People who suffer from lung conditions have noticed that their symptoms get worse more in dry or cold air. Dry weather dries out the mucous membrane and restrict the blood flow in airways. Steam therapy adds moisture and warmth to the air and improves breathing as well as loosens the mucus. Steam inhalation helps the people to breathe easily and provides immediate relief.

What to do
Pour boiling water in a big bowl. Place your face over it. Cover your head and face with a towel. Breathe the water vapours. This is the easiest way to practice steam inhalation at home. A hot shower may also help.
Postural drainage –
Postural drainage is lying in different position and using the gravity to drain mucus from the lungs. This practice improves respiration as well as prevents or treat lung infection.

On the back–
Lie on the bed and place the pillows under your back to ensure that lungs are above the hips. Now slowly inhale through nose and exhale through your mouth. Make sure that the time taken to exhale should be twice long than the time taken to inhale.
On your stomach –
Place a few pillows on the floor and lie down with your stomach over the pillows. Make sure to keep your chest below the hip. For support, fold your arms under your head. Practice the breathing pattern as discussed above. Continue this for a few minutes.
On your side –
Lie on your side. Rest your head on a below or on your arm. Place the pillows under your hips. Practice the breathing pattern as discussed above for a few minutes and then repeat this on the other side.
Drink grape juice –
Grape is known to clean out the lungs. It acts as a lung tonic and improves lung functions.

What to do
Drink a glass of grape juice everyday.
Breathing Exercises –
Breathing exercises for chest known as Pranayama increases the flow of fresh blood into the lungs and keeps the lungs pure.

What to do
Inhale slowly and completely. Hold your breath for a few seconds and then exhale fully. While doing so keep your abdominal muscles relaxed and allow your diaphragm to descend. Your abdomen will expand; diaphragm will descend, making more room in your lungs to allow it to fill with pure air. Repeat this at least 8 times in a day.
Green Tea –
Green tea is rich in antioxidants that fights free radical damage and reduces inflammation in the lung.
What to do
Bring a cup of green tea 2 times in a day.
