Home Remedies For Burnt Tongue

1. Yogurt-

Eat yogurt if you want instant relief from the burnt tongue. Yogurt has a soothing effect. It alleviates pain and discomfort and relieves soreness and tongue sensitivity. Also, yogurt is healthy as it is rich in probiotics.
Consume a cup of plain cold yogurt. Before swallowing make sure yogurt stays in your mouth for a few seconds.

2.Suck an ice or anything cold-

The first thing you should do on burning your tongue is immediately have something cold to bring down the temperature of your tongue. This will reduce inflammation and prevent tissues from getting damaged. Also, this will keep the infection causing bacteria at bay.
Eat ice cream, suck ice cube or drink chilled juices taking small sips. But before you swallow hold whatever you are eating or drinking in your mouth for a few minutes.

3.Honey-

Honey is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. It is an effective home remedy to treat a burnt tongue. It prevents infection and is useful for wound healing.
Spread a teaspoon of raw and organic honey all over your tongue. Before swallowing keep it on your tongue as long as possible. Repeat this a few times in a day.

4.Mint-

Mint is rich in methanol. It reduces inflammation, numbs the affected area and activates the cold sensing nerves. It is anti-bacterial and also prevents infection. Drink cool mint tea. Hold the mint tea in your mouth as long as possible before swallowing it.
Alternatively, applying mint toothpaste over the affected area to provide relief. Once the toothpaste dries, rinse it off with cold water. Make sure not to swallow the toothpaste. Repeat this a few times in a day.

5.Saltwater-

Salt water is readilyavailable and is a simple home remedy for the burnttongue. Salt is antibacterial. It prevents infection and tissue damage. Warm water delays the progress of burn and also prevents tissue damage.
To a glass of warm water add a half teaspoon salt. Mix well. Swish the water in your mouth for a few seconds and spit it out. Repeat this a few time in a day. Do not swallow salt water.

*If you suffer from high blood pressure better avoid this.

6.Sugar-

Sugar is amazing in reducingdiscomfort and pain.It soothes mouth and tongue and also improvesthe taste in your mouth.
Spread a teaspoon of sugar on your tongue. Hold it in your mouth as long as you can and let the sugar melt.

Repeat this a few times in a day.

*Avoid this if you have diabetes.

7.Aloe vera-

Aloe vera is used to treat minor burns. It is edible,and you can also use it to treats burnt tongue. The healing properties of aloe vera effectively relieve pain and soothe the burnt tongue.

Extract the gel of fresh aloe vera and apply it over your tongue. After a few minutes rinse your mouth. Repeat this a few times in a day.

You may also add four tablespoons of aloe vera to a glass of water and swish your mouth with this mixture for a half minute and then spit it out. Do this a few times in a day.

Home remedies to treat burnt tongue are used in mild cases. If the tongue is burnt severely, it may cause an infection. Better see your doctor as soon as possible.
