Wheezing may be defined as persistent whistling sounds that is produced in the respiratory airways while breathing. In medical term, this condition is known as ‘sibilant ronchi’.

Wheezing is defined as high-pitched whistling which is heard on exhaling but in severe cases can also be heard while inhaling. Wheezing happens when a portion or part of the respiratory tract is narrowed down, inflamed, obstructed or thins.

Wheezing is common in those suffering from lung diseases. Recurrent wheezing is a common symptom of asthma attacks but may also be a symptom of lung cancer. Other health conditions that causes wheezing respiration includes chronic pulmonary diseases, dysfunction of vocal cords, tracheo bronchitis or acute bronchitis.

1.Warm Fluids-

It is essential to keep yourself hydrated. If your body is hydrated, it won’t stress your airways,and you will be able to breathe without any difficulty. Drinking warm fluid loses sticky mucus accumulated in your airways or throat.
Make a habit of sipping warm waterthroughout the day. You may also add lemon juice to warm water.
Other warm liquids such as herbal teas and soups will also be a good choice.

2.Steam Therapy-

Steam inhalationis another excellent home remedy for wheezing respiration. It minimizes obstruction of the airways and eliminates thick phlegmand mucus.
To a bowl of boiling water. Add a few drops of essential oil of your choice. Place your face over the bowl of steaming water and cover your face with a towel. Inhale deeply with your nose and exhale with your mouth. Do this for 1o minutes. Repeat this a few times in a day.

3.Ginger-

Ginger boost immunity. It is anti-inflammatory. It eases the inflammation of the airways and inhibits contraction. Being muscle relaxant ginger relieves tightness of chest.

Steam a few pieces of ginger in steaming water for 10 minutes. Strain and drink the tea warm. You may also add a teaspoon of honey to it to increase the effectiveness.
Drink ginger tea 2-3 times in a day.

4.Apple cider vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar balance the pH level and flushes out the body toxins. It is rich in nutrients that supporttherespiratory system.
To a cup of warm water add twotablespoons unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Also, add teaspoon honey to it. Mix the ingredients and drink it two times in a day.

5.Hot Shower Bath-

Hot shower bath makes breathing and wheezing comfortable. It relaxes airways and thins the mucus accumulated in the airways. It is just as effective as steam therapy.

Run hot shower in the bathroom. Close the door and stand in the shower for 20 minutes. Do this two times in a day.

6.Garlic-

Garlic is very useful in treating coughing and other symptoms of asthma. Being rich in antioxidant it neutralizes free radicals, reducesthe release of histamine,reduces the contraction of airways and prevents asthma.
Crush a few cloves of garlic in a cupof water. Cool it, strain it and drink it. Drink garlic tea a few times in a day.

7.Warm Oil Massage-

Warm oil thins the mucus accumulated in the airways and relieves swelling. Also, it improves breathing and provides you comfort.
Warm mustard oil and massage your nostrils with it for 20 minutes. Repeat this three timein a day.

8.Turmeric-

Turmeric is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It clears nasal blockage, soothes inflammation and irritation.
Add a teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of water. Drink ittwo times in a day.

9.Eucalyptus Oil-

Eucalyptus oil is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and is decongestant. It releases the respiratory muscles and eases stress.

Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on your handkerchief and keep it close to your head while sleeping.
