Blocked nose or stuffy nose is a very common bothering almost every one of us has suffered. It is a common symptom of cold, sinusitis, flu and allergy. Many people believe that nose gets stuff because of the excessive production of mucous and they keep on blowing nose to clear off the mucus. A blocked nose is not due to excessive mucus production but is the result of inflammation and swelling of sinus blood vessels.

With the help of few home remedies, you can provide yourself and your little one some relief from a blocked nose. Below is the list.

1.Steam inhalation-

Steam inhalation is one of the best known natural ways to clear a blocked nose.

Fill a pan with water and boil it. Take it off the flame. Place your face over the pan. Cover your head with the towel. Inhale deeply and exhale for 5-10 minutes. Repeat this 2-3 time in a day. Also, add a few drops of peppermint oil to the steaming water for better results.

2.Garlic-

You must have heard from your grandmother asking you add garlic to your soups when you have a cold and also massage chest, nose and throat of small children with warm mustard oil in which garlic cloves are added. Garlic fight infection. It is anti-inflammatory and clears the nose blockage.
In a cup of water add a few cloves of garlic, half teaspoon turmeric and a pinch of black pepper and boil it for a few minutes. Drink the syrup once in the morning and before going to bed.

Alternatively, you may also stand in the bathroom and turn on the hot shower. Keep the bathroom closed and inhale the steam for a few minutes.

3.Warm liquids-

4.Apple cider vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium that thins the mucus. Acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar fights infection and speeds the recovery Add two tablespoon of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water. Also, add a tablespoon of honey to it. Drink it two times in a day.

5.Cayenne pepper-

Cayenne pepper is a natural decongestant. It losses the mucus and help you to get rid of it. Capsaicin present in cayenne pepper relieves inflammation. Mix a one-fourth cup of unfiltered ACV, one-fourth cup of lemon juice and a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper to a glass of warm water. You may also add a one-fourth teaspoon of ginger powder to it. Now add two tablespoons of honey and mix well all the ingredients. Store this concoction in an airtight bottle and consume a tablespoon of it three times in a day.

6.Massage your nose-

Massaging is one of the best ways to soothe blocked nostrils and improve breathing. It increases the flow of blood and thins out the mucus. Sit in a semi-reclining position and massage your nose gently with warm mustard oil with your thumb and index finger. Make sure you apply some pressure on both sides of nose, the bridge of the nose, next to the inner eyes and around the cheekbones. Report this 6-7 times in a row several times in a day.

7.Homemade saline drops-

To get rid of nasal blockage saline drops are available in the market. We can also prepare nasal saline at home. You only need pure sea salt and distil water for it. Dissolve two teaspoons of sea salt to a half cup of distilling water. Boil the solution and pour it is a squirt bottle. With the help of a sterile drop add two drops of homemade a nasal saline drop in each of your nostrils. Salt solution will dilute the mucus and relief nose congestion. Also, it shrinks the swollen tissue and provides your relief from nasal congestion.
